cottish Catholic adoption agency ordered to serve same-sex couples

Posted by Joseph on 28 January, 2013

Catholic adoption agency in Scotland has been ordered to provide equal service for homosexual couples, or lose its legal status as a recognized charity.

St. Margaret’s Children and Family Care Society in Glasgow provides adoption services only to married couples. The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator ruled that this policy “unduly restricted” the range of services, and “constituted direct discrimination” because it does not allow for service to homosexual couples. Warning that the existing policy “does not provide public benefit” because it violates the Equality Act of 2010, the Charity Regulator ordered the Catholic agency to change its policies by April 22.
